Miss Dawn LOVE'S teaching kids how to sew and quilt.
Ages usually start no younger than 7, that seems to be the age at which kids motor skills and control of the sewing machine foot pedal really start. That's right all our kids use a sewing machine! They may not be able to reach the foot pedal but yet, lol, but they learn how to use every aspect of the machine safely. Threading, bobbin winding and most important, steering to keep adequate seam allowance.
There are 2 sessions scheduled for Summer Quilt Camp.
June 10 - 14 or July 29 - Aug 2
Both Quilt Camps are Monday - Friday 11am - 3pm, lunch included
An added bonus to sewing and quilting is that each kid makes their own lunch each day. Take Irons, boards, aluminum foil and add cheese, beans, tortillas and all the trimmings and voila! Gourmet Quesadillas!
Camp fee is $150, this does not include fabric & supplies. We do not want to turn anyone away that wants to learn. Please know that scholorships are available, please call shop for details.
They will be making a Modified Jelly Roll 1600, "nearly" twin size quilt. Supplies usually run $125 - $150 and is not all purchased at the same time. The fabrics for the top usually run $40 and are purchased in advance of class (7, half yard cuts). The fabric for the back and batting for the inner lining are purchased based on finished top size, typically day 2-4 of camp. A supply list and more information will be given at time of registration.
If they have their own sewing machine or one they have used before, we ask that they bring it. The more familiar they are the better. For those that do not have access to a machine we have some onsite for them to use. Please be sure to tell us at time of registration that they will need to use a classroom machine.
Additional supplies needed will be long sewing pins, pincushion & scissors that actually cut fabric :-)
